I recently spoke with one of our members, czamodeo to ask her how she came to make the decision to donate her body to science after death.
USICO: How did you come to this decision?
czamodeo: I came to decide to donate my body because I hoped I could be of some help to the Universe after I am gone. Who knows what can be discovered as they fiddle around with my remains!!
USICO: To which institution will you donate your body?
czamodeo: STONYBROOK HOSPITAL is the recipient of my cadaver.
USICO: What is actually involved regarding how they will collect your body? etc
czamodeo: probably the person who is the emergency phone number I have on my phone ( will notify them I have died and they will come and pick up my cadaver wherever it may be), as well as everyone close to me, is aware of my wishes…
USICO: What message do you want to send to the med students who will be dissecting your body?
czamodeo: I would want the students to know how happy I was to be able to donate myself to help them work in medicine their entire careers, and, I would like them to see a brief video of me so they would have a little idea about my story and who I was on this crazy planet.
USICO: Do you have any advice for someone who wants to donate their body but is on the fence about it?
czamodeo: if someone is unsure of donating their cadaver, I would say, I got a sensation of satisfaction KNOWING how important I will be to 4 students throughout their professional careers and also knowing they may see that little video to know me a smidgeon, just do it dammit!
